Vera Jones Walthour was born November 5, 1944, in Durham County to the late George and Nina Jones. She was a 1962 graduate of Hillside High School, receiving the Commerce Award. She worked in the business community many years before returning to the learning field, where she received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business Administration from North Carolina Central University in 1979.
She also did some post-graduate studies at NCCU, and studies at the Durham Technical Institute concerning computers. Vera enjoys being a friend to anyone and helping anyone she can, especially the elderly. She has worked in the administrative position in the church for over 30 years. Vera has three children, two daughters: Joan (resides in Atlanta) and Sherry who both served in the Persian Gulf War; one son - Tyrone (resides in Atlanta) and one grandson (Atlanta). She also participates in the Foster Parent Program and have two lovely sons: Jermaine and Derrick. She loves the Lord and believes that regardless what task we take on, with His help we will be able to endure. Her favorite scripture is …"weeping may endure for a moment, but joy comes in the morning."
